Scholars redefine the border conversation at Arizona-Sonora Colloquium

Researchers and scholars at ASU and universities in the northern Mexico state of Sonora are collaborating on projects aimed at improving the quality of life in regions along the U.S.-Mexico border. Among them is Enrique Vivoni, a professor in the Fulton Schools and ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration. Vivoni is partnering with colleagues at the Instituto Tecnologico de Sonora and El Colegio de Sonora to explore solutions to urban sustainability challenges, using Phoenix and Hermosillo, Mexico, as test cases. Both cities are facing harsh climatic conditions, particularly rising urban heat, Vivoni says.
