David Rosowsky

Foundation Professor of Engineering

Foundation Professor of Engineering David Rosowsky says he is excited about creating partnerships, engagements and collaborations across Arizona State University.

“I am so excited to be joining ASU because it is the most forward-leaning, innovative and exciting major research university in the nation,” Rosowsky says.

Rosowsky continues his long career in higher education in a new role as a professor of civil engineering in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at ASU. He will also serve as a senior advisor to ASU President Michael Crow and a senior fellow of the University Design Institute.

Before joining the Fulton Schools, Rosowsky served as vice president for research at Kansas State University. He also has experience as a dean of engineering, provost, senior vice president and vice president for research at major universities.

Rosowsky has been honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers and other organizations several times during his career, most recently having received the 2023 Ernest E. Howard Award, which recognizes significant contributions to the field of structural engineering

Rosowsky received ASCE’s Howard Award for his contributions to the risk-informed design of wood structures and his influence on a generation of engineering students.

Rosowsky says his interests in probability and statistics and their application to structural design led him to his area of specialization within civil engineering. His work has focused on codes and standards, design for natural hazards and stochastic modeling of environmental loads.

Rosowsky will spend the fall getting settled but hopes to begin teaching graduate classes in probability and statistics and structural reliability in the future.

“I also look forward to serving on PhD committees and co-advising PhD students in areas of mutual interest,” Rosowsky said.

Outside the classroom, Rosowsky enjoys music, outdoor recreation and is a collegiate sports fan.
