Impact Award, Fall 2022
Alexander Skyriotis
Mechanical engineering systems student Alexander Skyriotis chose to enroll in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering for the hands-on experience he knew he would gain to prepare him for a career in industry.
As a part of his undergraduate capstone project at The Polytechnic School, part of the Fulton Schools, Skyriotis collaborated with industry professionals at Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix to develop a project charter and benchmark existing solutions. He then generated several design concepts before fabricating and testing a prototype device.
Outside of the classroom, Skyriotis participated in the Rossum Rumblers robotics club where he helped generate designs for the club’s entry into the VexU robotics competition.
The annual competition hosts more than 300 national teams competing to master a different robotic skill. Skyriotis had the opportunity to assemble subsystems for his team’s robot.
He says that receiving dean’s list recognition every semester and earning the Moeur Award for completing his undergraduate studies with a 4.0 GPA are some of his biggest ASU achievements. The receipt of this IMPACT Award that he was nominated for by his advisor John Rajadas, an associate professor of engineering, is yet another milestone to add to his list of collegiate accomplishments.
After graduation, Skyriotis plans to complete his master’s degree in engineering through the accelerated master’s degree program. After earning his graduate degree, he intends to work in the aerospace industry, preferably with a defense contractor in the Phoenix area such as Northrop Grumman or Boeing.
