Amulya Sai Reddy Kanthala
Instructor, Biomedical engineering
Fascinated by electronics from a young age, Amulya Sai Reddy Kanthala spent much of her childhood disassembling and reassembling household gadgets, a pastime that ultimately led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering.
“ASU allows you to pursue your career goals at your own pace, with a community that is incredibly supportive, motivating, and always open to discussion,” she says.
Before becoming an instructor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering, part of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, Kanthala earned a biomedical engineering master’s degree in the same program. The supportive and motivating environment ignited her ambition to teach in the program.
While Kanthala pursued a bachelor’s degree at Mahindra University in India during the pandemic, she was driven by a desire to help others and to work in a field where her contributions would have a notable impact on society.
“I wanted to be of help; I wanted to work in a field whose impact is reflected directly on society and people,” says Kanthala.
This fall, she is teaching undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering. She is particularly excited about fostering open dialogue in her lectures to give and receive regular feedback from her students.
“I’d like to explore the student-teacher dynamics from a teacher’s perspective after years of being a student and to observe my own growth in this new chapter of life,” Kanthala says.
She hopes to inspire students through her classes and encourage them to follow their passions. One of her fondest memories as an undergraduate student at Mahindra University was founding Mastershot, a filmmaking club that is still active today. Kanthala takes immense pride in starting the film club and helping start the trend of industrial visits at the school.
Outside of work, Kanthala is currently learning Japanese. In her spare time, she also enjoys expressing her creativity through painting.
