Joshua Conter – Distinguished Graduate
Joshua Conter
B.S.E. in Engineering, Automotive Systems
Graduated from Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces, New Mexico
Joshua Conter was involved in FURI, EcoCar3 and Baja SAE. Joshua feels the most rewarding aspect of his undergraduate years at ASU has been his participating in the great student organizations.
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose to come to ASU because of the good engineering program and also because my father went to ASU.
What was a memorable moment for you at ASU?
A memorable moment at ASU would have to have been when I was the System Modeling and Simulation team lead for EcoCAR 3 and we had a huge paper due for EcoCAR 3, we stayed up for two days straight making the paper perfect and when we were done we passed out in the EcoCAR labs and woke up in the labs around 9pm.
Can you name a professor that was instrumental in helping you grow?
I actually have two professors who were critical to my growth as a student. The first was Senior Lecturer Jim Contes who is an Automotive Engineering Instructor and also the Baja SAE faculty advisor. I learned so much from him. He helped me become a better student and person in the process. The second was Assistant Professor Abdel Mayyas who is in automotive engineering and is the faculty advisor for the ASU EcoCAR 3 team. He pushed me to be a better student and pushed me towards research and modern vehicle engineering, I would not have received a FURI grant without him, and I wouldn’t have been successful in EcoCAR 3 without his guidance.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I will be moving to southeastern Michigan to work for General Motors as an associate architecture engineer in vehicle electrification.
