Nicolò Michelusi

Assistant Professor

When Nicolò Michelusi began his undergraduate studies in Italy, he didn’t know that one class would set him on his future career path. That class was communication systems and it opened up a world of possibilities for him.

“I was fascinated by the principles of wireless communications,” he says. “The idea that an invisible wave can carry information bits.”

Michelusi combines his love of solving challenging mathematical problems with his knowledge of wireless communications to develop new technologies that have a societal impact. His research on next-generation wireless communications systems will not only help connect people but also connect autonomous systems, enabling more capabilities for technologies such as driverless cars, smart agriculture and virtual reality.

His innovative spirit makes Michelusi a perfect fit for the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, which is what attracted him to Arizona State University.

“ASU is the leading national institution in innovation, which makes it the ideal environment to grow my research,” Michelusi says.

An outdoor enthusiast, Michelusi enjoys cycling, hiking and climbing. He can also be found in the kitchen cooking up his favorite Italian dishes.

Michelusi will be joining the Fulton Schools in January 2021.
