WA wanted to be a national leader on solar panel recycling. It’s had a tough start

Solar energy system installations in Seattle have doubled for several years while development of large solar energy farms in Washington State is underway. But progress in converting to more clean energy technology is facing hurdles. Many solar panels are reaching the end of their lifespans, while the state is behind in recycling solar panels. Combined with financial factors, the situation threatens to dampen the fervor for alternative energy sources. Meng Tao, a professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, part of the Fulton Schools, talks about the challenging technological, economic and public policy issues that must be resolved to recharge the Washington’s solar energy evolution.
