The Missing Students
The Fulton Schools has been at the forefront of ASU’s commitment to establishing itself as “global university” that is welcoming to qualified students from around the world. Fulfilling that mission has become challenging in recent years due in large part to divisive political issues that have decreased the numbers of new foreign students in the U.S. The friction has led to various limitations on the granting of visas and shorter time limits on granted visas. Despite the trend of politization of international students, ASU — particularly the Fulton Schools — has remained steadfast in casting a global net for talent. “Engineering is global” says Kyle Squires, dean of the Fulton Schools, in which more than three-quarters of resident graduate students are international students.
