Making mandatory device upgrades a thing of the past

Making mandatory device upgrades a thing of the past

Work on a microchip able to update electronic devices without having to completely replace those devices is being advanced in research led at ASU by Daniel Bliss, a professor in the in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, part of the Fulton Schools, and director of the Center for Wireless Information Systems and Computational Architectures. The chip project called DASH, part of the U.S. Defense Advance Research Project’s Administration’s Doman-Specific System on Chip program, is expected to produce wide-ranging advances, including improved radio systems and communications devices and a reduction in the need for costly technology systems updates. A spin-out company formed by Bliss will help to commercialize the new technology.
