As Deepfake Fraud Permeates China, Authorities Target Political Challenges Posed By AI

Experts warn that artificial intelligence, or AI, technology is quickly becoming more advanced and thus increasingly capable of making it more difficult to detect fake images and voices. AI expert Subbarao Kambhampati, a professor in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, part of the Fulton Schools, says scammers’ increasing capabilities to produce more realistic fake images and audio recordings make it more important to educate people on how to detect the small indications of manufactured images and sounds. We must now understand the current reality that our eyes and ears are no longer enough to always accurately discern truth from falsehood.
