Algae asphalt paves way for cleaner roads
Millions of tons of asphalt used each year on roads and roofs contributes significantly to the release of toxic airborne particles into the atmosphere that pose a major risk to human and environmental health. Researchers are developing biobased additives for asphalt as a way to construct and maintain roads without those negative impacts. Among the new pavement materials is AirDuo, developed by Elham Fini, an associate professor in School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, part of the Fulton Schools.
